These exchanges can be very enlightening for those of us outside the
scientific community in helping us understand the issues and putting
human faces (or at least e-mail address!) on them.

I'm sure many more conservative types would call me a bleeding heart
whacko, but I think I'm in the middle of the road on most issues. On
animal experimentation, I think it should be clearly shown that there
will be a benefit before anyone starts hooking up the wires or lighting
a Marlboro for the rat =:-)
