Dear Tweets,

I hope, as has been suggested, that most of you will consider addressing
the 'light up Seattle' plan with a letter to the mayor's office. Tonight's
news insinuated that only *some bird lovers* were protesting his lighting
plans; this was taken directly off Tweeters as I understand. I sent an
e-mail directly to the mayor's office although with my address I suppose I
was assigned to the bird-lover pile. However, the power of the community
writing polite, informed letters against a proposed action can be quite
emphatic.

If you have friends that are astronomers, enlist their help in contacting
the mayor's office, since they have had problems holding their star parties
for ages due to city lights. I recently told a correspondent in South
Africa of the mayor's plan and he wrote back asking for the e-mail address
saying that he would be pleased to write a letter (and I didn't ask him to!).

So, now, while the plans are not firm, please write regarding this very
inappropriate suggestion for a celebration of the millenium. His address
again is: <mayors.office at ci.seattle.wa.us>

Be creative - think of alternatives! (Polite ones.)

Regards, Diann MacRae
