We've been maligned!

According to an article in today's Seattle PI, the Mayor and City Council
have responded to the negative feedback received from Tweeters subscribers
regarding Mr. Schell's millennium plans to light up the skyscrapers,
bridges and harbor areas of downtown Seattle: Mr. Schell was "bemused",
dismissing our concerns as if we're a (small) bunch of kooks waiting for
the next star ship to Mars (not that there's anything wrong with
Mars-loving kooks); Seattle City Councilwoman Sue Donaldson, who will
co-chair the millennium planning committee, refereed to our concerns as
"ridiculous".

PLEASE take five minutes today to enLIGHTen these people about the downside
of lighting up Seattle: literally thousands of migrating birds will die
when they become disoriented by the light, especially during inclement
weather, and crash into buildings or fall to the ground, exhausted; the
problems with light pollution; the waste of energy; and the many, many
other great, ecologically sound, constructive projects that would
better-celebrate the millennium.

Post notices on other similar mail lists, even those in other states; tell
all your like-minded friends to speak out; write letters to the PI; ask for
support from any of Seattle's many Audubon groups and other like-minded
organizations. Let's show these people that there we are not simply a
bunch of bird brains.
