Given that most of the birds killed by lighted structures are in transit
through the US to reach breeding grounds in Canada, I would be happy to sign
such a letter as Seattle's Mayor Schell, who I don't think has quite thought
this one all the way through, is proposing an environmental tragedy with
international consequences for wildlife shared by our countries.
If any of the people who work for Canadian Wildlife Service, the relevant
section of the federal Environment ministry, Environment Canada, or people
who are with the provincial ministry in the BC Wildlife Branch, or other
leaders within the British Columbia birding and ornithological communities
who lurk on Tweeters would care to originate some protest, I'm sure that
would help.
