Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday May 28. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The Yaquina Bay ARCTIC LOON continues to be seen. It is found mainly in
the channel from the Marine Science Center to the east of Sally's Bend.
Also at Yaquina Bay during the week was an adult FRANKLIN'S GULL, several
FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS, a secretive ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER along the
Center's Nature Trail, and a SABINE'S GULL observed May 24. A possible
BAR-TAILED GODWIT was near the Nature Trail May 25.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported from Indian Ford Campground May
23. It was seen in the aspens along the creek just east of the
campground.

An EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE has been coming to a Portland feeder during the
week. This may have been an escapee, but this species is expanding its
range across North America.

A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at a Newport feeder May 25. The feeder
is on a large tree near the street at 508 SW 11th. Ave.

A BRISTLE-THIGHED CURLEW was at Bandon May 22 and 23. The curlews at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River have not been seen since May 21.

An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was at Bandon May 20, and 2 PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at Pony Slough at Coos Bay May 21. A WESTERN KINGBIRD
was at Pony Slough May 27. An adult LONG-TAILED JAEGER was a half mile
offshore May 24. A SANDHILL CRANE flew over the South Jetty of the
Columbia River May 22. A PARASITIC JAEGER was there May 23.

Some RED CROSSBILLS are now being reported from western Oregon. A LARK
SPARROW was along Logie Trail Road near Scappoose May 26. A CATTLE EGRET
was at Banks May 23. Among the many migrants at the Fernhill Wetlands at
Forest Grove May 23 were CASPIAN TERNS, BONAPARTE'S GULLS, RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES, OLIVE-SIDED and WILLOW FLYCATCHERS. Similar migrants were
reported elsewhere in the Willamette Valley, with a MARBLED GODWIT at
Creswell.

The extensive Tower Burn in Grant County has attracted large numbers of
BLACK-BACKED and other woodpeckers. Take County Road 20 south out of
Bates to check out the area. Check page 83 B2 in the Delorme maps.

WILSON'S WARBLERS were reported in large numbers in many areas east of
the Cascades during the week. Two REDSTARTS were at Summer Lake May 25.

It was cold and wet in southeast Oregon during the Memorial Day Week-end.
Among the many migrants were 3 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS at Malheur
Headquarters, and another at Fields; single male BROAD-TAILED
HUMMINGBIRDS at Page Springs Campground and at Fields; a MOCKINGBIRD at
Page Springs and at the Burns Airport; and brief visits of a TENNESSEE
WARBLER and an OVENBIRD at Headquarters May 25.

There was a report of a WHITE IBIS in the farm fields between Burns and
Wrights Point during the week-end but it could not be relocated despite
extensive efforts.
