We too had a great, if wet, time at Wenas.

On our way out on Monday, we encountered a flock of around 20 Western
Tanager - mostly males, but at least two or three females. They were
literally 5-to-a-tree over a 100 ft. section of Audubon Rd., just after we
passed the wash from the beaver dam. Quite an experience!

I must give thanks to Wilson Cady for leading me up to the Williamson's
Sapsucker nest at Hog Ranch. It was a life bird, and a GREAT look. The
female was cooperative enough, but the male really did things right, sitting
facing us for as long as we cared to look!

Dan Kinney (sp.) got our field trip lost on Saturday, but that was after he
led us into a magical grove where we saw a MacGillivray's Warbler at a dozen
feet away, saw several orioles, and watched from right underneath while a
male Caliope attracted first a female (attempting copulation) and then a
rival male.

And I finally convinced myself that I saw and identified Hammonds, Dusky,
AND Gray Flycatchers.

A Great Horned Owl on Umtanum Rd. (just over the line into Kittitas Co) on
our way out was a nice treat.
