Two male HARLEQUIN DUCKS were along Emerald Creek in northern
Latah Co., ID on Sat May 16, according to Julie Fronzuto. The ducks
were in the East Fork of Emerald Creek along FS 447, she thinks
between mile markers 7 and 9. Take ID 3 from Clarkia to milepost
59.7 and turn south onto FS 447. ID DeLorme 58, AB-3. There's also
a nice write-up of this area in A Birder's Guide to Idaho, p. 70.
.
A single BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was on Swanson Lake in Lincoln Co,
WA this past week according to Jerry Converse. Swanson Lake is
about 10 miles due south of Creston. About 1 mile west of Creston,
take Creston South Road off US 2. WA DeLorme 86, C-4.
.
Four male BOBOLINKS were near Ukiah, Umatilla Co., OR on May 21
according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The birds were 0.25 mile
north of Ukiah on the west side of the road in a large marshy area.
Also in the area was a pair of SANDHILL CRANES and a white-bodied,
regulation-necked Canada Goose. At the Ukiah sewage ponds were
WILSON'S PHALAROPES, a single COMMON LOON, and a LARK
SPARROW. To get to the ponds, enter Ukiah from the north, turn right
at "Granny's" onto Soap Hill Road. Just as Soap Hill crosses Camas
Creek, turn left and follow the road toward the ponds. OR DeLorme
86, D-1.

Ten SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen along WA 127 near Central Ferry
in Garfield and Whitman Co., WA. Four birds were 3 miles south of
Central Ferry in Garfield Co., and 6 birds were 5 miles north of Central
Ferry in Whitman Co. Larry Marsh saw these birds on Mon May 18.
WA DeLorme 56, CD-2. Larry also reports 8-10 BARN OWLS on the
large cut-bank along US 12 just outside Dayton, Columbia Co., WA on
May 18. Larry saw 2-3 adults and 6-8 juvies. WA DeLorme 42, B-1.
