Hi:

Good news. The Arctic terns are back in Everett and there are three on
the nest. You can see them flying along the waterfront. Also got a
belated report (April) of red-throated pipits on Jetty Island.

I just got back from my first visit to Malheur. What an amazing place.
I had no idea of the vastness of the place or the beauty. I was so
happy to see some "eastern" birds that I had not seen for quite a while,
my favorite being the bobolinks. It was nice seeing black and white,
Tennessee and Nashville warblers as well. And the multitudes of western
tanagers and yellow warblers was remarkable. Got a life bird - chukar.
Yeah I know, everyone has seen a million of them but not me. After
seeing the first one on the rim of one of the Diamond Craters, we saw
two on the highway coming home. The scenery on the ride to and from was
also spectacular - most amazing were the painted hills, but so were the
rimrocks and canyons. These are visions that will be in my minds eye
for quite some time.
