Hiked up there myself today. (To the "Do Not Enter" sign on the
logging
road.) Got back to the car at about 5:30, so maybe we passed on the
trail.

Saw two ospreys circling the lake as I got to the trailhead. Then
on the
way back down, at the lowest viewpoint, 3.5 hours later, I watched
an osprey
harrassing an adult bald eagle high above the lake, almost level
with me.
This went on for some time. Also saw a number of steller's jays, one
turkey vulture, 1 red tail, 2 unidentified hawks, 2 white crowned
sparrows
+ heard one, 1 downy female, and two gray jays (at least I think so;
I didn't
have time to get the binocs on them). Plus unknown little yellow
birds. Also
around to the west from that slag heap the trail goes through, I
heard
some sort of potential grouse-like sound (?) together with rhythmic
snapping
or flapping. Probably a squirrel from Mars or something, but I'm
going
through the CD-ROMs to see if I can find something that might sound
like
it. Oh, yeah; two garter snakes sunning themselves.
