We went for a ride down to Ephrata today to see if we could find the
BURROWING OWL that Scott Hall and Robert Taylor had reported. Thanks!

We not only saw the Owl on the power line, but saw his mate (she was a
little darker) and their borrow, out in the field.

The location is: Coming from Ephrata, at Mile marker 14 there is a
trailer house(green and white) go two and 1/2 power poles south and the
burrow is in the East field about 50-60 feet from the highway. Please
use caution and walk very carefully, the grass is very tall. We were
within 6 feet before we saw them--then we backed up. And I got pictures.

On the way back into Ephrata there is a small gravel pit?? on the right
just off the road. There is a small pile of gravel-mud-clay (15 feet
high) that has 121 BANK SWALLOW "condos" and the swallows were very
busy.

On the highway near the Sun Lakes State Park intersection Sandy spotted
a CHUKAR!! on the side of the road. We stopped and got about 2 minutes
of viewing time.


At the very South end of Lake Lenore there were 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS and 6
WILSON'S PHALAROPES.
