Apparently someone using By Guess and By Gosh statistics of his own
takes issue with the l996 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and
Wildlife-Associated Recreation. I suggest that he get a copy for his
edification. During the screening phase the Bureau of the Census
interviewed a sample of 80,000 households nationwide. They conducted
in-depth surveys of 22,758 anglers and hunters and ll,759 wildlife
watchers every four months. For approximate standard errors at 95%
confidence intervals the estimate of wildlife watchers was 62,868,000.
Standard Error was 75l,000. Lower 95% was 6l,396,000 and upper 95% was
63,340,000. Expenditures totaling $29,277,888 with a standard error of
$l690,452, with lower 95% confidence limit of $25,9l4,603 and upper 95%
confidence limit of $32,54l,l73. And this Bull that most wildlife
watchers are old codgers, the largest age group was from 35-44 years old
(l2%) and the next age group were 45-54 years old (l0%). Among the
ladies the largest age group was 35-44 old (l4%) and the next 45-54
years old (ll%). So what does the Tulip Festival Statistician base his
figures on? E. Kridler, Sequim, Wa. ekridler at olympus.net
