This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for October 24,

On October 10, Dennis and Glenda Rockwell, birding at Crow Butte State
Park, found the previously reported MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE plus ROCK and WINTER
WRENS, HERMIT and VARIED THRUSHES, a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE, and FOX &
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS. Also along Highway 221 north of Paterson, they
observed a MERLIN.

Craig Corder and Judy Stevens found a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER on the Yakima
Delta on October 11 while on the following day, Nancy LaFramboise and Ruth
Fischer noted a PECTORAL SANDPIPER and a BONAPARTE'S GULL on the delta. A
single DUNLIN was there on October 14 and 3 DUNLIN on October 15.

Also on the 15th, Scott Dietert reported a flock of SANDHILL CRANES over
the Columbia River in North Richland.

At Crow Butte State Park on October 17, Dennis Rockwell saw 2 LONG-EARED
OWLS and 2 WINTER WRENS while at Two Rivers Park (Finley) he noted a COMMON
LOON, a DOWNY WOODPECKER, and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

On October 18, Ed Rykiel reported a GREAT HORNED OWL that roosts in the
trees along the river behind the WSU campus.

Roger and Patty Pollari found a EURASIAN WIGEON plus a pair of HOODED
MERGANSERS on the duck pond in Columbia Park on October 10.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen by Bill and Nancy LaFramboise in their
(Richland) yard on October 23.

On that same day I (Bob Woodley) found an OLDSQUAW, LEAST and PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, DUNLIN and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS on the Yakima Delta plus a
FRANKLIN'S GULL and 13 BONAPARTE'S GULLS on the upper end of Nelson Island.
