Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday November 4. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The elusive CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR is most likely still at the South
Jetty of the Columbia River. It was last reported November 1.

Two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, a MOCKINGBIRD, and a late BLACK-THROATED
GRAY WARBLER were near Langlois, south of Bandon November 4. There have
been many WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS reported in Oregon this fall.

A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER in full breeding plumage was at Pony Slough on
Coos Bay October 28. The AVOCET and 14 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were
also seen that day.

The ROCK SANDPIPER first noticed October 13 at Barview Jetty at the mouth
of Tillamook Bay has remained. It is found among a flock of SURFBIRDS.

Up to 35 HOODED MERGANSERS were with the RED-NECKED GREBE and other
waterbirds at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove during the week. A
RED FOX SPARROW was at a Washougal feeder October 31. The Sandy River
EMPEROR GOOSE continues to be seen at Lewis and Clark State Park east of
Portland.

A SAY'S PHOEBE was at Baskett Slough NWR October 29. Large numbers of
birds of prey are now in the Willamette Valley, including ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS and NORTHERN SHRIKES. Up to 11 WHITE-TAILED KITES were reported
from Finley NWR during the week. A good number are now at Fern Ridge
Reservoir also.

A group of at least 4 GRAY JAYS were coming to a feeder in the Willamette
Valley town of Philomath November 4.

On October 31 a PACIFIC LOON, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 5 COMMON LOONS,
and a BONAPARTE'S GULL were on Suttle Lake, west of Sisters. A
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was on nearby Big Lake the same day.

Thats it for this week.
