Those who seem to believe that faith in a 6,000 year old earth is
necessary for one to be a Christian might want to read the section
entitled "God and evolution: can you accept both?", which makes the
case for theistic evolution and the notion that accepting evolution
doesn't mean one most abandon Christian faith.

Which until recently was the Pope's position. More recently, he
pronounced a change in the Church's position, in essence saying
that the belief in evolution not only was acceptable, but that
evolution was in fact indisputable.
