Hi Tweets,

I have not follwed this thread really, but I thought I would jump in
here. Mark wrote: (snip)

I must agree with this. Fossil records show that the dinosaurs became
estinct 65 million years ago, so how can the universe be only 7,000 years
old? A couple years ago (can't remember exactly which issues of these
magazines) I read an article in Scientific American, as well as one in
Science News. Where they said that previous estimates of the age of the
universe were at about 12 BILLION years (the data they had reflects this)
and their argument for this date was very logical. Then, one day, they
saw something (I think they recieved radiation from a pulsar) which
pointed to the age of the universe as being much older (about 20 Billion
years, a far cry from 7,000).

How old is the earth? Rocks from the earth's crust have been collected
which were roughly 4 Billion years old (there are many ways to date this
accurately). Current estimate of the earth's age are at 4.5 Billion
years, because the earth's crust is constantly being renewed (pieces are
melted as new crust is made). The oldest fossilized pices of what is
believed to be an evolutionary link between man and apes is over 4
Million years.

Check out the February 1997 Scientific American (the one with Archeoptryx
on the cover) it provides a very compelling argument as to why birds
evolved from dinosaurs. If you want to believe that the universe is only
7,000 years old, you are entitled to, I just think you may want to
reconsider because there are a lot of people who will think you are a
nut, and no one in a scientific community would find you credible. If
you want to believe that evolution does not happen, you are entitled to,
but I can tell you for a fact that we have several examples of evolution
in the last 2-300 years. Evolution does happen, maybe not to the extent
that some want us to believe, but it does happen. I'll get off my
soapbox now. . .

Respectfully,
