Hi again Tweets:
Do Varied Thrushes have some sort of propensity to kill themselves
against windows, more than other species? I was given a "strange
looking robin" earlier this fall (dead, in my freezer now), and my
friends have had two dead in two days at their house. The thrush in the
hand is a wonderful experience (getting past the dead part). I got to
really look at each and every field mark and compare them with the book
and wonder about variations and age and sex, etc. Very educational.
(Parenthetical Note in reference to a post by Mareen Ellis: these
examinations are usually followed by the "Ah-Hah! prayer," as she so
aptly phrased it.)
You should have seen the look on my friend's face when she found the
thrush while digging through my freezer the other day. She pulls out
the baggie, looks at it, gets this totally shocked looked and then
quickly shoves it back in the freezer. I intend to send the bird to a
college but it is one of those chores I never seem to get around to.
