Since the issue has come up here, I'll say this one time for the benefit
of those who are able to understand. (Those who _ought_ to understand
are caught in a trap that makes them unable to think about anything that
challenges their beliefs.) Nothing in biology makes sense except in the
light of evolution. To think about biology while denying evolution is
like thinking about chemistry while denying the existence of atoms and
molecules. Of course, any scientific concept can be challenged by new
data and interpretations, but the idea of evolution driven largely by
natural selection is so fundamental and is supported by such an enormous
body of evidence that there is virtually zero probability that it will
ever be overthrown. The people who call themselves scientific
creationists are charlatans who know nothing about science; in order to
make their ideas at all coherent, they must effectively throw out most of
physical science as well as biology. They are nothing but special
pleaders desperately trying to hold on to their religious views in the
face of overwhelming opposing evidence; if they would just write their
books for one another and leave the rest of us alone, I could tolerate
them, but they continually try to infect public education with their
nonsense, and for that reason they are not only deluded but dangerous.
I will probably ignore flames in response to this note because I have
never yet had an exchange of words with a creationist that was of any
value to either of us.
