It turns out that Burt was absolutely wrong about one thing: that it
is pointless to talk to creationists because they are incapable of
changing their mind.

The person who started all this by putting up a link to the creationist
"the universe is young" web page, along with the "for an example of
science without emotion" commnet, turns out to be fairly open-minded.
He e-mailed me thanking me for the reference to the talk.origins
web page, its section written by some Christian scientists who address
how they reconcile faith with science, and more information on the
lying scum of the ICR. Among other things, he thanked me for opening
his eyes in regard to the ICR, who he now recognizes for what they are.

So, there's hope, I suspect he'll turn into one of the "God created
the universe" type creationists...

As far as the rest of your post, you are absolutely right.
