The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a report about a notable sighting or to
listen to the most recent reports from other birders, call (425) 454-2662 and
follow the prompts.
To place a message on the BirdBox via email: send the message as
you want it read to Hal Opperman, halop at accessone.com with a cc to the person
who is transcribing at the time. This is a service to those living in the long
distance calling area. It may involve a delay in getting the message on the
phone as most of us do not monitor our email constantly.

I welcome corrections such as pointing out the mangling of place and
persons names.
BirdBox previously accessed Sunday, November 8, about 8 PM. [My last
transcription erroneously gave Sunday's date as the 9th. Sorry. BN]

BirdBox last checked 11-11 at 2:45 PM.

Sunday, 11-8, 8:09. This is Dan Lindsay (425) 455-5782. Over the weekend I
was at Ocean Shores and the interesting sightings were a couple of GRAY
PLOVERS at Damon Point on the bay side. At the central pond there were some
CANVASBACKS, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 8 PIPITS in addition to the usual ducks and
grebes. A PEREGRINE FALCON, a couple of HARRIERS and a SHORT-EARED OWL were
all hunting over the pond. At night there was a GREAT HORNED OWL in the woods
just beside the Community Center. That's the most notable stuff. Good luck and
good birding.

Sunday, 11-8, 10:32 PM. Dave Swayne (206) 932-6603, reporting for an Audubon
Field Trip over to the east side today. We observed a very interesting RED-
TAIL just north of Ellensburg on Dry Creek Road about a half mile east of
Frost Road. This bird best fits the description for a KRIDER'S RED-TAILED or
maybe an intergrade in that it had lots of white on the head, lots of mottled
white on the back, had a mostly white breast with a very white belly and
undertail coverts and most importantly the top of the tail, the upper side,
was very white with a little reddish terminal band about maybe an inch or so
wide. I hope some other people get a look at this bird. It's a beautiful bird!
One other odd sighting was a WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER in a grove of deciduous
trees at the corner of Richards and Cove basically way out in Manastash
Canyon. That's it, thanks.

Monday, 11-9, 6:20 AM. This is Douglas Marshall (206) 270-8960. This report
is for Sunday the 8th. On our way back from Portland, stopped off at the
Woodland Bottoms which are described in WOS News, # 48. While I was there I
observed a flock in excess of 26 SANDHILL CRANES at the end of Guild Avenue.
It's DeLorme Atlas, page 22, A 2.

Monday, 11-9, 8:51 PM. Hi, this is Herb Curl at (206) 524-5750 and at Spencer
Island yesterday there were large flocks of LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, a few
WESTERN SANDPIPERS but the best bird of the day was a NORTHERN GOSHAWK that
was seen very clearly flying over the ponds both on the right and the left
side of that access road that crosses the refuge. And, of course, there was
the usual bunch of puddle ducks, NORTHERN HARRIERS and the like. So, thanks a
lot. Bye.

Tuesday, 11-10, 7-21 AM. Hello, this is Wayne Weber (250) 377-8865 with a few
sightings from the Oroville area of Okanogan County over the weekend. On
Saturday, November 7th, I had a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, a MERLIN which
had just killed a HOUSE SPARROW and 2 late AUDUBON'S WARBLERS, all at Boundary
Point on the west side of Osoyoos Lake just south or the US-Canadian border.
At Lake Osoyoos State Park at the south end of the lake, I had 2 COMMON
REDPOLLS flying overhead and at Palmer Lake west of Oroville, there were 4
TUNDRA SWANS among many waterfowl at the north end of the lake. On Sunday,
November the 8th, at Boundary Point again I had a Pacific Loon at very close
range. Also at Oroville was another MERLIN. At Bolster, east of Oroville there
were 25 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS feeding on berries in the village and I had a flock
of 17 GRAY PARTRIDGES feeding in someone's driveway right in the town. That's
it for now.

Tuesday, 11-10, 10:55 AM. Hi, this is Tom Aversa (206) 782-7342. I had 10
SWAN species, I'm guessing maybe TUNDRA, fly over Woodland Park towards Green
Lake. Thanks
