Subject: an eagle, crows, and hot air

Yesterday I was working outside at our greenhouses along the Columbia River.
I heard some crows overhead so I looked up. About 150 - 200 yds. above was
a bald eagle being harassed by two crows. The eagle was working to stay
aloft because there were no up-drafts along the river yesterday. Then the
eagle happened to fly over the hot air rising from the chimney.
Immediately, the eagle began to circle and rest, and soared to about 300
yds. high, leaving the crows behind. After a minute or two the eagle took
off for the cliffs, flying out of sight.

This is an interesting scientific observation, as I have never seen an eagle
use a man-made heat source before. However, the symbolic lesson here is
important to me also. If you can't figure it out, then you've probally
become too scientific and have let the poet in you fall asleep.

After all, we are more than the sum of our parts.
