This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

An adult male PURPLE FINCH was in Richland, Benton Co, WA from Oct 31
through Nov 7. It's coming to some feeders on Bateman Island in the
Columbia River. From WA 240, take the Columbia Drive exit, go to the
right and find Wye Park. Walk across the causeway and continue in the
same northerly direction. After 100 steps there's a garbage can,
after 100 more there's a fork in the trail you ignore, and another 400
steps brings you to some feeders on the right in the trees. Craig
Corder and Judy Stevens found the bird and tend the feeders, and
welcome you to bring some seed. WA DeLorme 39, C-6.

An adult male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is coming to a feeder in Asotin Co.,
WA, according to Carole Vande Voorde. The feeder is at the home of
Joan and Roger Holland on the Joseph Game Range. Go south along the
Snake River from Asotin to Heller's Bar, then up the Grand Rhonde
River to the bridge. Just before crossing the bridge over Joseph
Creek, turn up the drive on the left side of the road. WA DeLorme 42,
D-8.

A single RED-THROATED LOON in breeding plumage was on Lake Coeur
d'Alene, Kootenai Co., ID from Nov 6-8. The bird was at Wolf Lodge
Bay on the northeast end of the lake, first seen by Corrine Cameron.
Wolf Lodge Bay is right off I-90 east of Coeur d'Alene. Take exit 22
onto ID 97. You may wish to drive ID 97 all the way to Harrison, as
this is a great time for rare loons along this route. ID DeLorme 60,
B-2.

It appears to be a good season for BARN OWLS on the Palouse. Charles
Swift reports a minimum of 8 BARN OWLS in Hell's Gate State Park in
Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., ID today, Nov 13. The park is south of
Lewiston along the Snake River. Check in the campground esp the
conifers. ID DeLorme 54, A-1. Charles also discovered a BARN OWL nest
in Moscow, Latah Co., ID. The nest with chicks is on the northeast
corner of the University of Idaho Administration Bldg. One or two
BARN OWLS are residing in my timber about 5 miles south of Moscow, and
Deb Beutler spotted a road-killed BARN OWL just north of Colton,
Whitman Co., WA on Nov 12.

Up to 36 TUNDRA SWANS, two AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 58 SNOW GEESE, a
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 5 DUNLIN, a BALD EAGLE, a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE, and 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at Mann Lake, near Lewiston, Nez
Perce Co., ID this past week, according to John and Marty Hirth, Deb
Beutler, and Carole Vande Voorde.

A CLARK'S GREBE was at Lower Monumental Dam, Franklin Co., WA this
past week, according to Carole Vande Voorde. At nearby Windust State
Park, Carole spied a late ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER in the bushes near
the river at the north end of the park. Lower Monumental Dam is about
6 miles south of Kahlotus, and Windust is about 3 miles downriver of
the dam. WA DeLorme 54, D-4.

A single MERLIN was in the yard of Phyllis Wicks in Moscow, ID last
week, and I spotted a single PEREGRINE FALCON flying near US 95 and
Palouse River Drive on the south end of Moscow today, Nov 13.

COMMON REDPOLLS were reported at the Davenport, Lincoln Co., WA
cemetery on Nov 7 by Jerry and Sandy Converse (WA DeLorme 87, C-7),
and several VARIED THRUSH were seen in Moscow, ID along with a few
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS.
