The chance of getting hit by a car? Fears that someone might shoot
it?

Also, we have very little data on spotted owls that have wandered so
far from normal habitat, so finding out if the bird's sick or severely
underweight will be of interest the the bios involved. One data point
isn't going to answer any questions definitively, but at least it's
data.

I find it hard to believe it could live on starlings all winter, they
get very trap-wary in a hurry and I imagine they'd get owl-wary just
as quickly.
