Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Wednesday November 18. If you have anything to add
call Harry Nehls at 233-3976.

The distinctive male TUFTED DUCK continues to be seen on the Columbia
River at Bingen. It will probably remain to winter.

On November 12 a TREE SPARROW and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW were at Cape
Blanco, and a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER and three SWAMP SPARROWS were at
nearby Flores Lake. On November 16 a TROPICAL KINGBIRD and two PALM
WARBLERS were near Cape Blanco.

Another TREE SPARROW was on the North Spit of Coos Bay November 11. There
are now 33 MARBLED GODWITS with the AVOCET at Pony Slough. A late YELLOW
WARBLER was at Millicoma Marsh in Coos Bay November 13.

A late, and out of place BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was at Cape Meares Village
November 16. A PALM WARBLER and four ROCK SANDPIPERS were at the
"Harlequin rocks" west of Garibaldi November 15. About 7000 DUNLIN and
1000 SANDERLINGS were on Clatsop Beach November 15. Over a thousand
WESTERN GREBES were on Youngs Bay in Astoria that day.

On November 14 an immature EMPEROR GOOSE was with other geese at Coon
Point on Sauvie Island. About 250 CRANES were in the nearby farm fields.
Up to 50 HOODED MERGANSERS are still gathered at the Fernhill Wetlands in
Forest Grove. The NORTHERN SHRIKE and the flock of BONAPARTE'S GULLS are
still being seen there, and on November 16 a FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the
wetlands.

A late WESTERN TANAGER was at Minto-brown Park in Salem November 11. A
late BARN SWALLOW was near the Salem Airport November 13. Four late BARN
SWALLOWS were near Roseburg November 14.

A MOCKINGBIRD was in Ankeny NWR November 17. It was seen at the brushy
fenceline near where Buena Vista Road crosses the railroad tracks. Up to
30 SNOW GEESE were on the refuge November 15.

On November 11 a CHIPPING SPARROW was along Royal Avenue on the east side
of Fern Ridge Reservoir. Close to 100 GREAT EGRETS are still in the area.
On November 15 a late TURKEY VULTURE was at the south end of Fern Ridge.

A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was at Hood River November 13. Over 300 WESTERN
GREBES, four RED-NECKED GREBES, and two PACIFIC LOONS were above John Day
Dam during the week. A number of BONAPARTE'S GULLS are below the dam.
Diving ducks are now arriving in numbers in the Columbia River Gorge.

A CLARK'S GREBE was on Trillium Lake, south of Mt. Hood November 15. That
day two SURF SCOTERS and three COMMON GOLDENEYES were on Big Lake at
Santiam Pass. On November 15 a LAPLAND LONGSPUR was at the dam at Wickiup
Reservoir south of bend. The next day up to 60 BALD EAGLES were gathered
on the Deschutes River arm of the reservoir feasting on spawned salmon.

On November 15, six LAPLAND LONGSPURS were in a HORNED LARK flock along
Township Road in the lower Klamath Basin south of Klamath Falls, and a
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 250 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and three HERRING GULLS were
at Lake Ewauna in Klamath Falls.

A flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were in Fields November 13.

Thats it for this week.
