Yes, Wilson's reply about the shotgun toters substantiates my feelings
toward Eric's notion that,

>Anyone who wanted to log old-growth would
>do everything possible to have the Everett Spotted Owl survive, to
>"prove" that Spotted Owls may not need old-growth timber.

The word "anyone" is far too broad a term. Moreover, the hypothetical
wacko to which we've been referring may not have even been simpathetic to
the logging industry. The media attention the owl received may have
motivated someone who was twisted enough to want to do harm to the bird
just to see how much commotion the act would cause.

All things considered over the past few days' flurry of e-mails on the
subject, I'm comforted that the owl was taken to a more typically
appropriate, potentially less vulnerable area. As this owl is one of a
rare breed, it makes sense to me that human intervention be directed toward
seeing to its welfare.

Perhaps WDFW and the Everett Fire Department should venture into dry cle
aning partnership.
They seem pretty adept at Spot removal . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
oooooooooh.
