When we first mentioned the Spotted Owl in the News Media, Don asked
about following letters to the Editor in an effort to screen public
opionion. Here is the first that I've seen.

"Seattle had its peregrine falcon but we had a spotted owl. We kicked
their butts. Then the state Department of Fish and Wildlife
spoil-sports took it away. The Grinch came early this year." Robert E.
Haggard, Everett

I know this does not voice concern for the bird, but I think many people
in the city felt the way this gentleman did. I was in downtown Everett
both days and the owl's visit was viewed as a gift. People who could
care less about birds and wildlife were excited in a positive way about
this one and because it chose our city to roost in. Everyone on the
streets were happy about it. I heard not one negative comment. When F&W
came and took it away it was like taking the wind out of their sails.

I am not saying it was right or wrong for F&W to relocate the bird. My
only concern is for the bird's safety and as to whether or not their
actions were well planned and thought out.
