Your best bet is to head around to the road (Martindale Road, I believe) which goes
along the north side of the Victoria Airport, about 17 miles due north of Victoria
near the town of Sidney. Look and listen for them foraging in the grasses near the
perimeter fencing. They can also sometimes be found farther south in the bare tulip
fields along Old Saanich Road which runs along the west side of the airport. They
are very much a bird of wide open spaces here in their exotic home. Barbara Begg
keeps a close eye on this species; she can be reached at (250) 656-5296 for the
latest info.
