Some of my falconer friends will tell you a wrist rocket is a
merlin........watching the male merlin in my area going after birds convinced
me a long time ago that they MUST hit at least Mach 1 when in pursuit!
Of course, very few of us have the time, the patience and apptitude to handle
any raptor, never mind the falcons.....
