Those who take at face value the biblical history that, if accurate,
makes

it clear that the earth is very, very young - several thousand years.


Evolution only makes sense in the context of an "old earth", and if you

take your position, then the Bible is not the literal word of God, but

full of metaphor and of attempts to explain the world to illiterate

stone-age shepards. Perhaps simply watered down for the audience, you

know?


But therein lies a great problem: if one accepts the fact that the
Bible

is not entirely the literal word of God, how does one choose between

conflicting stories and doctrines? All of a sudden, the Bible becomes

a document subject to political and philisophical analysis.


Rather than a document used to support positions on political issues...
