Jerry Converse pointed out a discrepency in dates in my post on Steller.
I said he returned to Kamchatka in 1742 and died, while the life dates
at the head of my post showed he died in 1746. I reread the article in
the Encylopedia of North American Birds. It says he returned to
Kamchatka in 1742 and that he died on his way back across Russia to St.
Petersburg Station. I am assuming that it took a while, and he died on
the way in 1746.
