Nice shots, Jerry. The BC north coastal/Alaskan race of Red-tailed Hawk
B.j. alascensis, as well as being slightly smaller than other redtails, is
noted for having a nice "checkerboard" dorsal pattern like yours in hatch
year plumage, *and* a tendency for a nice bright supercilium. I have some
shots from the Queen Charlottes of a young _alascensis_ which fit your bird
very well. Although this race is considered sedentary, perhaps there is
some short-distance movement.
