Well,

I have had my share of problems with squirrels before. I used to live in
St. Louis, adn there were times when I could count 13 squirrels in the
backyard at the feeder along with more in the front yard (oak tree) and
across the street.

And yes, they did chew on plastic. I have had 3 different tube feeders
destroyed by squirrels trying to chew the holes to make them larger (even
the ones with only niger seed in them!). Sometimes, they start after a
new feeder and destroy it in less than a day.

They also loved my suet (I only use plain now, occaisionally mixing
something else in). I have had squirrels chew through milk jugs with
seed stored in them. Basically, if it looks like there is easy food in
it, squirrels WILL chew through a plastic barrier, even the heavy grade
plastics.
