We once had a squirrel problem. Once the little beggars make up their =
mind to do something, they are bound to find a way and when they do =
there, seemingly, is no stopping them. I have made a trap, out of 1/4 =
inch hardware cloth, which works very well. When the local squirrel =
population becomes a problem, we catch them and transport them out of =
the neighborhood. I wont't tell where we take them but they are =
unharmed. We bait the trap with marshmallows which have been smeared =
with peanut butter. They, the squirrels, go "bannanas" trying to find =
the door into the trap and when they do, "Wham"! the door closes. They =
are so intent on getting that peanut butter that all caution is thrown =
to the winds. They don't seem to realize they are trapped until they =
finish eating and start to look for the way out. Then they begin to get =
a little frantic.

A couple of years back, I transported 12 squirrels during a 2 week =
period to solve the problem. We have since moved the tube feeders away =
from the house out into the backyard. We got the wrought iron =
"goose-neck" post with baffles above and below. The squirrels remain =
haven't figured that one out yet. Our suet remains hanging from the =
eaves by our family room window. It is in a feeder accessable only from =
underneath. The Niger seed is there also. The few squirrels we have =
around now are well behaved. We never see more than one or two at a =
time. I have loaned my trap to a friend who lives out in Maple Valley. =
At the last report I had from him he had transported 15 of the little =
rodents.
