Subject: Ross Goose

It wasn't a look good enough for a description that would pass the
State Record Committee, but Thursday I saw what had to be a Ross Goose
on Columbia NWR. It was an immature, noticeably smaller than a lesser
Canada, small bill. I was too distant to see how it "smiled". No
other white geese were present. The bird was using Upper Hampton
Lake, a sanctuary closure area of the refuge with no access to the
general public. I will be looking for it again this week.
