Took my lunch time to quickly bird Coulon Park at the south end of Lake
Washington in Renton. I'm so glad I did! Great birds.

A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was working a chain link fence that extends over
the water at the SW corner of the park. Beautiful bird.

In the water on the west side of the small island there were 103 COMMON
MERGANSERS, and 5 HOODED MERGANSERS as well as a single CLARK'S
GREBE!!!! On the snags and wrecks just off of the Boeing plant there
were 5 Great Blue Herons and 2 DC Cormerants.

Also at the very SW corner of the park, just on the little island there
were: 2 ORANGE-CROWNED and 3 TOWNSENDS WARBLERS, 50 PINE SISKINS, 2
NORTHERN FLICKERS, 5 ROBINS, 3 CEDAR WAXWINGS, 5 BLACK-CAPPED
CHICKADEES, 4 GC KINGLETS, a WINTER WREN and 30 BUSHTITS.

In the water through the park there were WESTERN, PIED BILLED, HORNED
and EARED GREBES, GREATER & LESSER SCAUP, CANVASBACK, GADWALL, RING
NECKED DUCKS, MALLARDS, and a pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL. The 12 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE (4 adults, 7 juveniles and 1 that appeared to be of
a different race than the others) were also there along with about 25
CANADA's (all moffetti). RING-BILLED, MEW, WESTERN and "OLYMPIC" GULLS
of all years were evident in the park grounds and on the water and
floats.

There were approximately 600 COOTS on the lawns in the park and 100 in
the water. I found a coot in distress near the Renton Sailing Club Pier
(caught in fishing line). I was about to go up to where I saw a Parks
Dept pickup parked to report the bird when the coot let out a loud
squawk - a river otter also saw it was in distress and took advantage of
the situation.

All of this in under an hour.
