About 2:50 AM I awoke to the sound of a flock of birds, geese I think. It
sounded like a large flock, the sound went on for a minute or so. The
best description I can give is they sounded like a high pitched kind of
musical barking. More flocks came over several more times, the last just
before seven. I don't think they were Canadas or Greater White-fronted,
the closest sound match I could find on my CD was Snow Geese. Would snow
Geese be flying over Ballard at 2:50 AM? I'm not even sure they were
geese...

Also in Ballard were six or so Heerman's Gulls on the beach at Golden
Gardens in the mixed flock of California and Ring-billed gulls at the
mouth of the little creek on the south end of the beach. They were only
about 30 feet from the sidewalk until an adult Bald Eagle flew over.
About 10 Wigeons were in the pond with the huge crowd of resident
Mallards, and I finally have Juncos in my back yard too. I should also
mention I saw a Pileated Woodpecker in Upper Golden Gardens last year, I
think. It's part of the BN greenbelt that runs from the canal north.
