The recent postings of migrating geese calling during the night reminds me of an
October night several years ago when I was wakened from my sleep by a thunder and
lightning storm. The lightning was bright and close enough to light up my room
and the thunder was as repetative and loud as a train going through our hallways.
All through the storm I could hear the very closeness of the Snow Geese caught up
in all this clamour barking and calling as though their very lives were coming to
an end. Kinda neat.

Often, in Point Roberts, during the winter months when we are out "owling" we can
hear the geese calling while passing through.

Had an hour to some quick birding down at Point Roberts Friday morning around 7-8
am,and saw the following birds amongst others:

Horned Lark (2) at the marina field
Heermans gull (1) at Lighthouse Park
Turkey Vultures (5) in over flight
Greater White-fronted Goose (1) flying over the airport field
Red-tailed Hawks (6)

The Red-tailed Hawk is a fairly common bird to see at the Point. What was unusual
about these birds however, was the fact all 6 birds were in a group hovering and
kiting fairly close over the evergreens that border a tall grass field.
