The tides looked good today, Saturday, with an incoming late
morning and early afternoon, so I checked out the Dungeness Oyster House mud
flats near Sequim. Birds were active and everywhere including; 5 Marbled
Godwits (beautiful birds!), 10 Dunlin (my first of the season) a very large
flock of Sanderlings, 15 Dowitcher sp. 6 Black Turnstones and ducks winging in
from the East (with the wind) mostly American Widgeon, Northern Pintail,
Mallards Green-winged Teal, Northern Shoveller and large numbers of Black-
bellied Plovers. Later stopped at Gardiner Beach boat launch and counted 35
Pacific Loons, many still in breeding plumage!
A great couple hours of birding despite
the rain.
