This is from Tom Kogut, wildlife biologist for the Cowlitz Valley RD, =
Gifford Pinchot NF:

A few recent sightings of interest, I hope:

Both three-toed and black-backed woodpeckers were seen foraging actively
in a two month old burn north of White Pass in the William O. Douglas
Wilderness on 9/29. Surprised to see such intense activity so soon after
the fire, which killed all trees over about 200 acres.

A white-headed woodpecker was observed at the Randle Forest Service
district office on 10/2 foraging on pines near the parking lot.

Finally, a boreal owl was heard last night, 10/5, at dusk (7 p.m) at
Reflection Lakes in Mt. Rainier National Park while I was taking
"moonrise" photos. Heard two series of rapid, high-pitched hoots which I
am almost positive was a boreal. Never saw the bird though and it didn't
seem interested in my crude imitation of it's call.
