Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
recording was made Thursday October 8. If you have anything to add call

On October 3 a winter plumaged adult LAUGHING GULL was near the Bay City
Oyster Plant on Tillamook Bay. It was again seen there October 6. A MANX
SHEARWATER, a FRANKLIN'S GULL, and several COMMON TERNS were part of a
swarm of birds off Barview Jetty at the mouth of Tillamook Bay October 6.
The next day a SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER was off the jetty and several late
CASPIAN TERNS were about the bay.

The October 3 offshore boat trip encountered a BROWN BOOBY 15 miles west
of Depoe Bay. This would be a first state record.

The WILSON'S PLOVER continues to be seen at Bullards Beach State Park
north of Bandon.

On October 7 a BLUE JAY was a few miles south of Newport at the same
residence that hosted the Lark Bunting a couple of weeks ago.

An immature MAGNOLIA WARBLER was with 3 PALM WARBLERS October 4 near the
mouth of Elk River, north of Port Orford.

Up to 18 SNOWY EGRETS were along the Winchuck and Chetco Rivers near
Brookings October 1. A NORTHERN SHRIKE and two LAPLAND LONGSPURS were
near Cape Blanco October 2. The CLARK'S NUTCRACKER continues to be seen
at Pony Slough on Coos Bay. Another was at Yaquina Head, north of Newport
October 5, and still another was on Sugarloaf Mountain in the Polk County
Coast Range October 6.

A male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was coming to a Reedsport feeder
September 30.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE, a LAPLAND LONGSPUR, and 4 COMMON TERNS were near
Florence October 4. A RED KNOT, 5 MARBLED GODWITS, many BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVERS, and several DUNLIN were reported from Tillamook Bay during the
week.

A RUFF was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River October 1. Several
LAPLAND LONGSPURS, some DUNLIN, and a PARASITIC JAEGER were there October
4.

Conspicuous movements of BARN and VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, VULTURES,
grebes, SNOW and WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and other waterfowl were reported
during the week. Flocks of PINE SISKINS, EVENING GROSBEAKS, and JUNCOS
are now arriving in the Willamette Valley.

A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was in a SE Portland yard October 2. A group of 4
MAGPIES was reported September 30 in the farm fields north of Cornelius.

On October 3 two EARED GREBES were at the Philomath Sewage Ponds; 1-2
WRENTITS were at Irish Bend, east of Finley NWR; and a RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK was seen along nearby Bundy Road.

On October 3 at least 3 SURF SCOTERS were on Suttle Lake in the Cascades
west of Sisters. A SANDERLING and a MARBLED GODWIT were at the Miller
Island Wildlife Area south of Klamath Falls September 30. The blinds at
the Cabin Lake Ranger Station were still attracting large flocks of birds
last week-end.
