Hi Tweets,

Granville Clint, the male Peale's-race Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus has
returned safely today (one day off his average arrival date of Oct 07--he's
not a migrant, he's a commuter) for about his tenth winter to downtown
Vancouver BC. Went downtown after work with Michael Beck (nice having a
birder for a boss) after not seeing him there yesterday or the weekend--no
fresh falcon poop there yesterday, a goodly bit today: welcome back, Clint.
He was on his favorite concrete panel below the heating vents on the N side
of the Granville 200 (or 2000--I can never remember) Building, an office
hi-rise at the N end of Granville Street. The best observation point is on
the promenade deck on the E side of Canada Place immediately to the W of
Granville 200(0)--but bring your bins, and preferably your scope, as he
tucks into a corner by the warm-air vent and is barely visible to the
unaided eye, so-so visible to bins, and requires a scope of 20x and better
for a good look. Very late afternoon and evening is the best time.

Where he hunts seems to be somewhere else, and the adult Peregrine I've seen
hanging around Granville Island on the strutwork below the Granville Street
Bridge might be him looking to whack a pigeon or two in the upscale market
area. How inelegant of the little punk.

Michael Price A brave world, Sir,
Vancouver BC Canada full of religion, knavery, and change;
mprice at mindlink.net we shall shortly see better days.
