Yesterday I had the opportunity to spend a quiet hour walking along
Manito Bay on Bainbridge Is. I saw about 100 American Widgeon, 50 or so
Surf Scoters, a dozen White Winged Scoter, and one Black Scoter very near
the shore ( a first for me!). There were also several rafts of ducks
farther out which I couldn't id, as I only had my bins with me, not my
scope:(
I also saw one Red-Throated Loon in close to shore as well as a pair of
Western Grebes and the usual flock of Cormorants sunning on some pilings.
On the shore I saw several Savannah Sparrows, which I have only seen a
few times before. All in all, this was a nice place to spend an hour
between rain squalls.
