22 birders from the E.Lake WA Audubon Society visited the Nisqually NWR from
0915 to 1500 on a partly cloudy, comfortable day. Because duck hunting season
started on Oct., the complete 5-mile loop trail is not open. The trail on the
east side is open to and including the Ring Dike Trail and the south side
trail is open west to McAllister Creek. You have to retrace on both trails.
It still amounts to about 5-miles of walking. The new viewing platform is
great. Large enough for a lot of people. It was there we had great looks at
an American Bittern. Total of 45 species.
