Sunday we headed for Almira (15 miles south of Grand Coulee) and about
8 miles from home was a stack of hay bails about 15 feet tall, on top of
it was a beautiful mature female (guessing by large size) RED-TAILED HAWK,
I have seen it there before. This time it was not in it's regular posture.
I went over and climbed the hay bails and SOMEONE HAD SHOT AND KILLED IT!!!!
The bullet went through one wing, (breaking it) The bullet then entered
the lower portion of the breast and exited the other side. It appeared
to be a profile shot. I would assume death was instantaneous. :-(((

We are at a loss of appropriate words to express the feelings Sandy
and I have. It was such a beautiful bird.

A side note, which I am sure will be overshadowed by the above, is that
a couple miles from home we did see two ROUGHLEGS--ALIVE! positive ID this
time.
