Thanks for the input Michael and Ruth and Jerry.

Even though it moved like a b&w warbler would, looked like a b&w warbler in
winter plumage, and in beak shape/length, and body size, I *still* cannot say
with 100% certainty that's what it was because I used my naked eye from 25
feet or so away. So, I will put this up to experience. I want to be 100%
certain before I record it on my permanent list. What I have learned is that
I now have sufficient justification to go buy another pair of binoculars to
keep by my study window, so I'll never lose another sighting from here. I
already have a pair in the kitchen. And a pair in my truck (I'm so glad I
decided on the sunroof ;)) I also think I need another quality guidebook. I
have NGS Birds of North America, which has been really great for the pictures,
so far. Any suggestions regarding another guide I might supplement that with
specifically for the PNW? Someone mentioned Golden? What is that?

Thanks for your feedback & expertise folks. I certainly appreciate the good
advice, which I'm sure I'll be seeking again in the near future.

Here's to fine obsessions,
