It's actually pretty easy. I did the following with Windows 98 and Access 97, to add a movie of a couple of chimps to my record for Mountain Bluebird (just testing):

Select the table you want to add the object to, go into design mode, add a field (call it "Picture" or whatever you like), and select data type "OLE Object." Then select the file you want from Windows Explorer, copy it to the clipboard, re-open the table, select the "Picture" field for the species record you want, and paste it in. Done.
