Hi Tweets -

On June 14, Michael Hobbs and I watched as a number (maybe up to three)
of Great Blue Herons showed similar behavior on Lake Sammamish. We first
noticed it when we saw a GBHE on the surface of the water too far out in
the lake to be standing (it seemed to be visibly floating). It then flew
off with a fish. Almost immediately after this a heron flew in and dove
into the lake. It also flew off with a fish. Another (the same? the
herons were feeding young then and we saw them coming and going all
morning) then dove in, caught a fish too big for it to carry and it
proceeded to swim over to the shore - it wasn't going to lose that baby.
It disappeared in the vegetation lining the shore and we couldn't see
what happened next. We both agreed at the time that we hadn't seen
anything like that before.
