Hi, Tweets

Just a quick note. Ann van der Geld and myself took the day off yesterday
and went east of the mountains to enjoy the absolutely glorious day. Had
to check out my bluebird trail before winter and clean the boxes. Most of
the now 10 boxes (someone stole another one out of the Swauk Cemetery!) did
have bluebirds this year; just one wren nest and one that was empty. The
only sad thing was removing one nest to find five little skeletons cuddled
together - I don't like that part of the job.

There were quite a few western bluebirds moving through, but we only saw a
couple mountain bluebirds. Lots of juncos, some killdeer, meadowlarks,
mourning doves, and a few other small passerines, but not great numbers or
variety. Not even a goshawk or grouse at the top of Table Mountain!

Raptors seen were:

1 immature golden eagle, quite near

21 red-tailed hawks (2 imm, 11 adult, 3 dark morphs, 5 others)

4 rough-legged hawks

4 northern harriers (1 imm, 2 females, 1 male)

3 American kestrels

1 northern shrike

And no turkey vultures!
