Sunday, 10/25/98, 6:10 p.m. Hi, Chris Chappelle here from Olympia. A
belated report from Wednesday, Oct. 21. At Nisqually Wildlife Refuge
there was an adult SWAMP SPARROW. The bird was seen in the middle of a
beautiful sunny afternoon right next to the new observation deck at the
twin barns.

Sunday, 10/25/98, 2:10 p.m. Hi, this is Alan Knue, 206.706.2550. This
morning at the Arboretum near Madison avenue around the soccer fields
there were 3, possibly 4 SCRUB JAYS busy caching acorns. This is the same
location that Sam Terry reported on last Sunday. Also, a belated report,
the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD is still present at Discovery Park. It is
located in the fields near the south bluff area. It is frequenting the
numberous elderberry and hawthorn bushes in the area, so check all the
bushes, because it seems to move around quite a bit.

Sunday, 10/25/98, 8:11 a.m. Hi, my name is Mike Blue, 425.255.9349, and
I live in the Maple Hills neigborhood in Renton, and last night there was
a BARRED OWL calling in my back yard.

Friday, 10/23/98, 7:05 p.m. [Name hard to hear, could be Becky Long - ch]
425.823.9692. Oct 22, thursday afternoon, I saw a pair of PEREGRINE
FALCONS at the 90 degree turn of the Samish Island road, very visible,
sitting on the utility poles.

Thursday, 10/22/98 This is Sean O'Donnell calling with an interesting
sighting from Shoreline this morning, at the corner of 192nd St. and
Corliss Ave. I saw a PILEATED WOODPECKER fly across a very open area and
then land on the top of a telephone pole, again very exposed. This bird
then called and was answered by another PILEATED WOODPECKER at the top of
a conifer about two blocks away, at the corner of 190th St and Corliss
Ave. Both birds then flew off to the north. I also saw an immature
Accipiter, I believe it was a COOPER'S HAWK hunting passerines in the
small park at 192nd St. and 1st Ave. That's all. Good luck and good
birding.

Wednesday, 10/21/98.9:33 p.m. Hi, this is Jim Flynn at 206.772.5568. I
wanted to report 62 CANVASBACKS at the Tukwila pond on the 18th. The pond
is just south of the Target store south of the Southcenter Mall. Also, on
the 16th, Thais Bock saw 3 FRANKLIN'S GULLS at Dash Pt. State Park, which
is in Federal Way, and on the 18th she reported a SANDHILL CRANE
overhead near Dumas Bay.

Tuesday, 10/20/98, 6:23 p.m. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. Today I went to
the Everett Ponds in the afternoon and had a FORSTER'S TERN. It was
perched on the wall on the south side of the south pond. Notably, they've
shown up almost every year between this date and November 10. Also, a
FRANKLIN'S GULL was present and several hundred BONIES, and still
approximately 1200 RUDDY DUCKS. That's it - good luck and good birding.
