Tweets,
This morning popped down to the fill and found quite a few interesting
things around. There were 3 Greater-white Fronted Geese (2 juv.,1 ad), 8
Cackling forms of the Canada Goose, 1 Canada Goose with a neck band of
027T, 2 Pipits. Despite massive removal of much of the blackberries
sparrow numbers still seemed strong, though not if they continue to remove
the blackberries! I had 25-30 White-crowns, 10-15 Golden-crowns and 1
Lincoln's.
The biggest suprise of all were two quite common birds, on
other parts of the campus but quite unusual in my experience at the fill:
3 Steller's Jays at the main pond in the eastern shore willows (Only ever
seen Steller's once before at the fill) and perhaps even more suprising
was a single Red-breasted Nuthatch in the Cottonwoods along the extreme
eastern border of the fill, next to CUH (first time I've ever seen/heard
this species at the fill).
