Kevin Aanerud found a Red-breasted Nuthatch at the Fill in October 1987.
Of Steller's Jay, he has this to say: "single birds often noted in denser
riparian sections. A flock of six on 19 September 1986 were the only
obvious migrants." Ellen Ratoosh describes Steller's jay an an "occasional
winter visitor" to the Fill, adding that "four on 21 Sep 1980 was the
earliest record and four on 22 Apr 1982 was the latest. Records on 22
other dates were for one or two at a time. Of these, nine records were in
October, and six were in February." She found no Red-breasted Nuthatches
during her frequent surveys.

Kevin averaged two visits per week from 1972 to 1980, and again from 1984
to mid-1989. Ellen visited the Fill on 517 dates between April 1979 and
December 1983.
